New York Tuskegee Alumni Association

NYTAA started March 3rd, 1918
Per a July 5, 1919 article in The New York Age
"Jesse O. Thomas told of the activities of the New York Tuskegee Association, which is composed of Tuskegee graduates, ex-students, teachers who have been employed by the institution and graduates and representatives of other schools who have been identified as honorary members. The association was organized in March, 1918. The purpose of the Tuskegee Association, Mr. Thomas said, was threefold:
To keep alive the Tuskegee spirit, to give Tuskegee constructive and necessary publicity and to assist in the organization of educational forces in New York"
-April 5, 1918, St. James Presbyterian Church, 59 West 137th St, 1st Founder's Day events held in honor of BTW(born April 5, 1856)
-Held meetings at Urban League offices at 202 W 136th St, New York, NY 10030
-Headquartered at the White Rose Home, 262 West 136th St (see White Rose Mission)
-November 14, 1935 presented a life-size bronze bust of BTW to the Harlem Branch of NYPL. Sculpted by Leila Usher. Placing the bust in the Division of Negro History at the 135th Street Branch.
-1st Scholarship Fund December 12th, 1952, Jackie Robinson was the guest speaker
